Tissue vitality monitoring

The physiological parameters most useful to the researcher are those which provide information specifically relating to oxygen balance (i.e. supply vs. demand) in tissues exposed to changes in oxygen supply (i.e. during ischemia or reperfusion). In addressing these requirements, we have developed a range of in vivo tissue monitoring instruments that utilise fibre-optic micro-sensors to provide real-time data for tissue oxygenation (ptO2), tissue blood perfusion (blood flow) and tissue temperature.

The continuous and simultaneous measurement of tissue oxygenation and blood perfusion (as well as temperature) from the same sensor (and hence tissue micro-region) provides the scientist with unique insights into a whole range of hypoxia and ischemia-related disorders in experimental tissue and organs.

Our instruments are employed the world over in experimental applications covering such disciplines as tumor research, cerebral monitoring, free-flap/pedicle-flap transfer surgery, transplantation surgery, vital organ monitoring, pharmacology, as well as peripheral vascular disease research.
